Practice Persian™ 1 Lesson Plan

A ready-to-teach level 1 Persian language curriculum for children ages 7 to 10 who grew up with little or no exposure to Persian. Practice Persian 1 focuses on comprehension and speaking rather than the Persian alphabet: children learn sentence structure and build vocabulary before ever learning the script. A companion Student Workbook is available separately on our website. Developed by the Chicago Persian School, a leader in Persian language education since 2007, it is the same curriculum we use in our own classrooms, now available online to schools, teachers, and families anywhere in the world. What's inside: 31 fully scripted two-hour lesson plans, paired with the companion Student Workbook and organized around themes from a child's world: school, colors, the body, family, pets, weather, food and fruit, the home, clothing, daily routines, travel, the neighborhood, play, and Nowruz and Yalda. Instead of the alphabet, it uses a simple yet brilliant transliteration system for sentence-building and comprehension. Every lesson includes keywords in Persian, English, and sound coding, plus full teacher support: scripts, materials lists, timing, and common-error notes. By year's end, children have 260+ words, eleven verbs, and all six question words — enough to introduce themselves, describe their world, and talk about their day in Persian. Our approach: At this age, children are ready to talk. Sound coding lets them read and say every word from day one. Comprehension is taught step by step, in plain language, through patterns children hear and use. The curriculum is activity- and game-based throughout, so children absorb and internalize what they learn by using it in fun games. Built-in review sessions keep earlier material active all year.
